Your data in Split

Your account stores purchases, selected friends, payment usernames and split history. Bank tokens, tab contents and contact numbers are encrypted on the server. Passwords and session credentials are hashed. Receipt photos, PDFs and receipt recognition stay on your iPhone. When you choose to share a receipt draft, its item names, prices, assignments, tax, tip and participant names are stored with your account and visible through the private links you share. Each link can change only its assigned participant’s claims. Links expire after 7 days or when you finalize or stop sharing; do not forward them. Claiming items does not opt a person into texts.

You can create or sign in to your account with Google or Apple, or use a username and password. Google or Apple shares a verified account identifier and email, and your name when available. Split uses this information only for account functionality. Split does not receive your Google or Apple password, and does not request your email messages or Google contacts. Apple sign-in tokens needed to revoke access are encrypted on the server and revoked when you delete your account.

If you connect a bank or credit card, Plaid handles the bank sign-in. Split receives the accounts and purchase information you authorize. Split does not receive your bank password or transfer money.

The current release sends requests only when you share them with Apple Messages or the share sheet. Automatic texts and recurring reminders are not available in this release. If added in a future release, automatic texts and recurring reminders will use Textbelt, which processes recipient phone numbers, request contents and delivery status. Friends must verify their number and opt in before Split texts them. You can adjust or disable reminders in Settings. Mobile contact data is not shared for third-party marketing.

Disconnect banks or delete your account in Settings. Account deletion removes live server records and revokes stored bank connections. Where encrypted backups are configured, they may retain deleted records for up to 30 days. Opt-out evidence may be retained to honor your choice. Apple and payment apps apply their own privacy policies.
